DescriptionThis cosy thatched cottage is situated up in the mountains on the farm Teddington owned by Chris and Tracy Coghlan. The cottage gets its name from the berg stream trickling through the garden. With scenic views of the berg and farm lands, this is the ideal getaway from city life. Teddington is shadowed by Mt. Macdonald (7491 ft) and the Umzimvubu River forms the boundary in the valley.Accommodation is provided in 3 bedrooms with double beds and a recess with a single bed. One of the bedrooms also has an additional 2 single beds. The cottage can sleep up to 9 people. Two full bathrooms, one with a shower are included. Our mountain cottage, "The Rock House" is named after the big sandstone rock next door. This unique cottage has 360-degree berg views and you can really feel the mountains. Rock House is tiled throughout and all appliances run off gas, with the quiet hiss of the gas lamps and soft light creating a special atmosphere at night. The cottage has a simple 2 bedrooms, one full bathroom and open plan living area with a fireplace. Rock House can sleep up to 6 persons if the futon sleeper couch in the lounge is used. A large sliding door leads from the living area onto a spacious veranda complete with under cover braai and patio furniture. This is the perfect place to relax, savour the views or have a sundowner. The veranda also has a hot outside shower with a view. Rock House is a wild and lonely place, suited to those who prefer peace and solitude without sacrificing comfort. There is no electricity supply at the Rock House. Both our cottages are fully equipped and serviced daily. Extras include fresh farm milk and Little Stream has a coal stove in the kitchen, two carports and an outside braai. Both cottages have fireplaces in the lounge to keep you warm on frosty winter nights. Firewood is for sale on the farm. Dogs under supervision are allowed and a kennel is provided at Little Stream. For those who do not enjoy self-catering we offer a DB&B option in two en suite bedrooms at the farmhouse. Both rooms have private entrances and meals are served in our thatched Boma in the garden. The mountain is the habitat of numerous buck and the 4X4 track up to Loch Macdonald on the mountain plateau provides access to explore this spectacular area. Loch Macdonald at an altitude of 2016m is one of the highest still waters in KwaZulu-Natal and has been stocked with rainbow trout to compliment the river fishing. A 4x4 is required to drive up to the dam, however vehicles can be left at the bottom of the pass and the dam is only a short but steep walk. Our wetland in the river valley is home to a variety of water birds and on the mountain, raptors such as the Lammergeyer, Black Eagle and Cape Vulture can be found. Kingston campsite overlooking a small beach on the banks of the Umzimvubu River is available for those who prefer to camp. This private camp is booked out to one group of campers at a time to ensure privacy. A thatched boma and field toilet are provided at the camp. We pride ourselves in offering a value for money farm holiday experience and clean and comfortable accommodation.
